About the Nissan Sentra
The Sentra is Nissan's compact sedan, a high-volume, low-cost car that has been sold in America since 1982 and now runs well over 150,000 units a year. It is front-wheel drive, four-cylinder only, and fitted with small wheels and tall sidewalls, which makes it one of the cheapest cars in this catalog to shoe. Owners mostly need to know whether they have 16-inch or 17-inch wheels.

A small, upright sedan with simple rectangular headlights, a plain grille and 14- or 15-inch steel wheels on base trims. The SE-R and SE-R Spec V versions are the ones worth identifying, with body-color side skirts, a rear spoiler and 16- or 17-inch alloys. Base cars on 185/65R14 are the cheapest Sentra fitment ever sold.

Seventh generation (B17)
Revealed as the global Nissan Sylphy at the 2012 Beijing show and shown for North America in August 2012, the B17 is a smooth, softly styled sedan with a V-shaped grille, swept headlamps and a high trunk. S and SV trims run 16-inch wheels on 205/60R16, while SR and SL move to 17-inch wheels on 205/50R17 with a visibly lower sidewall and a rear spoiler.
What the press said
The Sentra has always been reviewed as competent, cheap transportation rather than a car anyone recommends for the driving. Reviewers praise the rear-seat space, the equipment for the money and, on recent cars, the interior design and exterior styling, which look more expensive than the price. The criticism has been remarkably stable for a decade: the engine is underpowered, the CVT amplifies that impression, and there is no hybrid option even though several rivals offer one. Ride and handling on the current car have been praised as composed, which was not true of the B17.
The new Sentra continues to offer lots of features for the money and is good-looking inside and out.

Was it a success?
The Sentra is a straightforward commercial success and one of the last affordable compact sedans standing in a market that has largely abandoned the segment. Resale is below average, which is normal for a car with heavy fleet and incentive history and good news for used buyers. Reliability reputation is mid-pack: the engines are simple and durable, while the CVT is the component that draws complaints, particularly on B17-generation cars, some of which received extended warranty coverage.

Tire options on the Nissan Sentra
Sentra sizes are small, tall-sidewalled and cheap: 185/65R14 on the oldest base cars, 195/60R15 and 205/60R16 through the middle of the range, and 205/50R17 on SR and SL trims. Everything is square, front-wheel drive, and nothing has ever come with run-flats; most cars carry a compact spare, and some recent trims have a repair kit instead. Original equipment has been Continental, Hankook and Bridgestone touring all-seasons chosen almost entirely for rolling resistance, which is why the factory tires wear well but grip poorly in the wet when worn. Almost nobody upsizes a Sentra, and there is no reason to; if anything, an SR owner will be happier on the 16-inch wheel and 205/60R16 for winter, which is cheaper and better in snow. Winter tire availability in all of these sizes is excellent because they are shared with most of the compact class. Expect 50,000 to 60,000 miles from a decent all-season on a car driven normally.
