Goodyear Tire and Rubber was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1898 and is still headquartered there, making it the largest US-owned tire maker. It builds passenger and light-truck tires in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Virginia and Kansas, and since buying Cooper Tire in 2021 it also controls the Cooper, Mastercraft and Mickey Thompson brands.
Goodyear's sweet spot is the mainstream American driveway. The Assurance line covers sedans and crossovers, with the WeatherReady 2 being one of the best all-weather tires you can buy and the MaxLife carrying an 85,000-mile warranty. The Wrangler family is everywhere on pickups, from highway-oriented models to the Workhorse AT and the aggressive DuraTrac RT. The Eagle F1 line competes with Michelin and Continental in performance.
Pricing sits just under Michelin on most lines, and Goodyear runs frequent rebates through its own stores and national retailers, so a patient shopper can often land a set for noticeably less than list. Warranties include a 30-day satisfaction pledge and mileage coverage that ranges from 40,000 to 85,000 miles depending on the model. Quality is consistent, though a few lower-priced Goodyear-branded tires are made overseas.

Most Goodyear consumer tires sold in the US come from its plants in Lawton, Oklahoma; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Danville, Virginia; and Topeka, Kansas. Some sizes are built in Canada, Mexico, Brazil or Asia. Check the DOT code on the sidewall if the country of origin matters to you.
Is Goodyear as good as Michelin?
In all-weather tires, the Assurance WeatherReady 2 trades punches with the Michelin CrossClimate2 and often costs less. In long-life touring and summer performance, Michelin usually holds a small edge in tread life and wet braking. For pickups and rebates, Goodyear is hard to beat.
What is the difference between Goodyear and Cooper?
Goodyear bought Cooper in 2021, so both are now the same company.
