Bridgestone was founded in Kurume, Japan in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi and is by revenue one of the two largest tire makers in the world. It bought Firestone in 1988, and its American arm, Bridgestone Americas, is headquartered in Nashville. US-market tires come mostly from plants in South Carolina, North Carolina, Iowa and Tennessee.
The brand is strongest where comfort matters. The Turanza QuietTrack is one of the quietest touring tires sold, the Dueler H/L Alenza Plus is a long-wearing highway tire for crossovers and SUVs, and the Blizzak WS90 has been the reference winter tire for ordinary cars for years. The Potenza line covers summer and performance, and Bridgestone was early to market with dedicated EV and run-flat tires.
Pricing is close to Michelin, sometimes a bit below, and Bridgestone runs rebates several times a year. Warranties are competitive: up to 80,000 miles on touring models, plus a 90-day buy-and-try guarantee that lets you exchange the tires if you do not like them. The one honest knock is that Bridgestone's performance tires wear faster than the class leaders, and some sizes are hard to find outside the dealer network.

Where are Bridgestone tires made?
Bridgestone builds most US-market passenger and light-truck tires in Aiken, South Carolina; Wilson, North Carolina; Des Moines, Iowa; and near Nashville, Tennessee. Some sizes come from Japan, Canada, Mexico or Southeast Asia. The plant code in the DOT number tells you which factory made your tire.
Is Bridgestone better than Michelin?
They are close competitors and the answer depends on the model. Bridgestone's Turanza QuietTrack is quieter than Michelin's Defender2, while Michelin generally wins on wet braking and consistent tread life. In winter tires the Blizzak WS90 and Michelin X-Ice Snow are both excellent, with Blizzak slightly better on ice and X-Ice lasting longer.
