About the Chevrolet Equinox
The Equinox is Chevrolet's compact crossover, though it started life in 2004 as a mid-size one and only shrank into the compact class with the 2018 redesign. It is one of the highest-volume vehicles in the US, which means every size it uses is stocked everywhere and priced competitively. Fitments run from 235/65R16 on the first generation to 19-inch wheels on Premier and Equinox EV trims.
Launched in 2004. Launched in 2004 as a 2005 model, the Equinox replaced the Tracker and the S-10 Blazer in Chevrolet's lineup, moving the brand's small SUV from a truck frame to GM's Theta unibody platform and building it at CAMI in Ingersoll, Ontario.

First generation
Tall, upright crossover with a two-bar grille, a flat hood and long rear doors; by modern standards it is mid-size rather than compact. Wheels are 16 or 17 inches with 235/65R16 the base fitment. The Pontiac Torrent is the same vehicle with a different nose.
2010-2017
Second generation
Much more styled, with a split grille, a rising beltline and a distinctive kicked-up rear quarter window. Most LS and LT cars run 17-inch wheels on 225/65R17, with 18s and 19s optional higher up. A four-cylinder with direct injection became the standard engine, and the 2016 facelift brought a wider grille.

Third generation
Smaller in every dimension, moving the Equinox properly into the compact class, with a low nose, a black-trimmed D-pillar and turbocharged 1.5- or 2.0-liter engines. LS and LT stay on 17s with 225/65R17, LT models can get 18s on 225/60R18, and the Premier runs 19s on 235/50R19. The 2022 facelift added a much wider grille and the RS trim.
What the press said
Reviewers have generally placed the Equinox in the middle of the compact crossover class: praised for interior space, ride comfort, a large cargo hold and an equipment list that undercuts rivals on price, criticized for a slow turbocharged engine, fuel economy behind the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, and highway noise. The 2018 downsizing was seen as the right move commercially but the loss of the V6 option drew complaints. The 2022 facelift improved the look without addressing the drivetrain. The recurring conclusion is that it is a value pick rather than a class leader.
The Equinox is a value-oriented choice among compact SUVs but that doesn't translate to best-in-class.

US sales peaked above 346,000 in 2019 and have run between roughly 165,000 and 301,000 since, making the Equinox one of the three or four best-selling vehicles Chevrolet builds.
Was it a success?
A major commercial success and, for several years, the second-best-selling Chevrolet after the Silverado. Resale is average because fleet volume is significant, which makes used examples good value. Reliability is mixed rather than poor: the 2.4-liter direct-injection four in 2010-2017 cars has a known oil consumption and timing chain history, and the 1.5-liter turbo that replaced it has had coolant and head gasket complaints, so a service record matters more here than on a Honda or Toyota.

Nothing in the range uses run-flats or a staggered setup, and all-wheel-drive versions use the same size as front-drive ones. Factory tires have usually been mid-tier all-seasons from Hankook, Continental or Goodyear, and the 19-inch Premier fitment is where owners most often step down to a 17- or 18-inch wheel for winter or for ride comfort.
